What is MDLIVE?

MDLIVE is a company that allows you to get care from a doctor from your home or work. You can call them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week all year long. Their Board Certified doctors can talk to you either by phone or a secure video to help treat any non-emergency medical conditions. Their doctors can help you with your symptoms, prescribe medication and send prescriptions to your drug store.*

Is MDLIVE right for every medical condition?

No, MDLIVE only handles non-emergency medical issues. You should not use MDLIVE if you are having a medical emergency. If you do have a life threatening medical emergency, call 911 immediately. MDLIVE is not to replace your primary care doctor. A phone doctor appointment can sometimes replace a urgent care or an emergency room visit.

What are the most common conditions I can call for?

How do I sign up for MDLIVE?

You can sign up by doing one the following:

When can I start using my MDLIVE service?

Once you sign up, you can start right away. There is no cost to you. Once you have an MDLIVE account, you can look at a doctors information and look at appointment times. Then you can schedule an appointment with the doctor of your choice. Want to go one step further? Fill out the medical history section to better prepare the MDLIVE doctor.

When is MDLIVE available?

MDLIVE is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and even on holidays. Use MDLIVE anytime you have a non-emergency medical condition. Or is you are unable to see your primary care provider and do not want to go to the emergency room or urgent care center.

Where is MDLIVE available?

MDLIVE is available anywhere in the United States.** Our doctors will be talk to you based on the state where you are located.

How much does it cost to use MDLIVE?

There is no cost to you.

Can MDLIVE be contacted on mobile devices?

Yes, MDLIVE can be used on most mobile phones with an Internet connection. Our MDLIVE Mobile App is available for download in the iTunes Store and the Google Play Store. Apple Store Google Play

Who are the MDLIVE doctors?

All doctors are U.S. Board Certified and can treat a lot of people. After each visit you are given a survey to complete. We want to review the results to be sure you receive good service.

Can a doctor prescribe medicine as part of an MDLIVE visit?

Yes, if the doctor thinks you need medicine, they will write a prescription. This can be sent to the drug store you use.* As soon as your appointment is over, your medicine will be sent (electronically) to the drug store you choose. If your drug store is not able to receive e-prescriptions, a paper prescription is written for the doctor to sign and fax.

Is MDLIVE safe and private?

Yes, MDLIVE is safe and private. MDLIVE is compliant with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and we only share your information with your doctor and drug store.

What system requirements do I need for MDLIVE video conferencing?

To use video conferencing you need:

  • Windows®7, Vista, or XP
  • A Mac running OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or superior.
  • Highspeed internet connection
  • A webcam with at least 1.3 megapixels
  • Microphone (most webcams already have microphone built in)

After you set up an account, you will be able to do a simple online test and check to see if you are ready for a virtual call.

What is teletherapy?

Teletherapy is a new way to get care. You can see a licensed therapist and have an online video therapy visit, on your schedule, from wherever you are located. Our HIPAA compliant teletherapy service is easy to use and requires nothing special.

Who will be helping me?

MDLIVE gives you access to many therapists. Our therapists are all licensed and thoroughly screened. You can look at our list of therapists, read their information and choose the therapist who you would like to speak with.

When can I talk to my therapist?

You can talk to your therapist when it’s convenient for you. It could be during your lunch hour, evenings and weekends, or while your kids are sleeping. With MDLIVE, you no longer need to travel to an office to meet with a therapist.

Does teletherapy work just as well as face-to-face sessions?

Yes, studies have shown that teletherapy is effective. In a 2013 a study conducted by the University of Zurich. In the study 57% of call in people finished the course depression free. This was compared to only 42% of people who saw a therapist in person. You can read a copy of the full study here.

Is teletherapy right for me?

Teletherapy is a good choice if you want a convenient way to get care. If you are just too busy to make an office visit, teletherapy makes getting care easy. Our therapists can help you with problems in your life. They can then help find solutions. We have therapists that specialize in more specific issues, such as: stress, anxiety, depression, addiction, marriage counseling, LBGT issues, parenting, and more.

How much does it cost to use MDLIVE?

There is no cost to you.

How do I talk with a therapist?

You will connect with a therapist through secure video conferencing.

Once you get to the MDLIVE home page, you can start looking for a therapist that is licensed in the state where you live. You can filter therapist information by gender, language or specialty. In each of the therapists’ information you will find their specialties and the schedules of appointment times.

Once you choose a therapist, you can schedule the appointment time that works best for you. If you have not created an MDLIVE account, you will be asked to do so.

If you are seeing a therapist by video, you will log on to MDLIVE at your appointment time, and the website will tell you how to begin a secure video visit with your therapist. You may need to complete a one-time download of our secure video application.

I am afraid that I am going to hurt myself or others. Can I talk to someone at MDLIVE?

If you have feelings that you may want to hurt yourself or someone else, please dial 911 or call the crisis counselors at 1-800-273-8255, where you’ll be connected to a skilled, trained counselor at a crisis center in your area 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
